Getting Started

This training module covers:

  • Communication with your BI Coordinator for successful data upload and management through DeltaBreed.
  • Required data for successful upload into DeltaBreed.
  • How to log in to DeltaBreed.
Working with your BI Coordinator

Your BI Coordinator will be your main point of contact with DeltaBreed and you are invited to participate in data curation and upload as much as you are comfortable. Since DeltaBreed is still in its early stages of program adoption, we want to be able to help breeding programs become comfortable navigating through DeltaBreed and their data. Your BI Coordinator will be assigned as a program administrator in your DeltaBreed program. Our long term goal is to have each breeding program upload their own data into DeltaBreed one day and we are happy to help meet you where ever you are in that journey.

Required Data

Data import into DeltaBreed relies on the use of flat files. DeltaBreed uses various templates to curate and validate data upload. Because we want breeding programs to feel comfortable using DeltaBreed, early adopters can choose to organize data onto these templates and share them with Coordinator or share data in your own format and work with your BI Coordinator to curate data into these templates for upload. As BI staff work through this curation process, they may have additional questions regarding any data that you share with them. Required data for upload into DeltaBreed is:

  • Germplasm

  • Ontology

  • Experiments & Observations

Log in to DeltaBreed

– Public Sandbox (for demo purposes)

– Production (client facing)

DeltaBreed Sandbox Public Practice Server

Important aspects about a public, practice server

  • In the public Sandbox server , you should expect your data to get wiped from time to time.
  • Everyone using this instance can see your data. You may want to anonymize your data if you choose to do any small uploads to test upload features.

How do users log in?

  • Login information is located on the left of the home screen of the sandbox.
Login credentials for Sandbox on the left hand side of the home page

DeltaBreed Production – Client facing

URL: https://app.breedinginsight.net/
Purpose: Upload of curated breeding program data for permanent storage.

Important aspects to know:

  • Only BI staff and people you have requested can see your program data.
  • The data is not wiped so you can load real data.
  • The production server is where you will actually load germplasm, ontology, and experiments/observations for your breeding program.
  • Any errors made here will require an BI-IT request to fix it on the backend. At this time, DeltaBreed has limited edit and delete functions so practicing in the test servers is best until you are confident you can upload data in production.

How to log in

You will need an ORCID account. DeltaBreed uses ORCID credentials to authenticate access.

Please see step-by-step instructions below on how to sign up for an ORCID account if you do not currently have one.

Get an ORCID Account

If you already have an ORCID associated email or ID number, share that with your BI Coordinator so that they can add you to your DeltaBreed program. If you do not, this video will walk you through how to get one.
