Current BI Species

We have our sights on growth.

At Breeding Insight’s inception in 2018, we began with six U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) breeding programs: alfalfa, blueberry, grape, sweetpotato, and salmonids (rainbow trout and North American Atlantic salmon).

In 2021, Breeding Insight added seven more programs: cranberry, cucumber, honey bee, lettuce, oat, pecan and strawberry.

Now, in 2024 we welcome even more new species to Breeding Insight including; hemp, raspberry, red clover/cover crops, hop, and blackberry.

All species and programs included in Breeding Insight are nominated and approved by the USDA-ARS Office of National Programs on roughly a two year cycle.

Choose a species below to discover more about each breeding programs and its role in U.S. agriculture or search our interactive map to see the location of all the species/programs that currently work with BI.
