Experiments & Observations

Full training materials about DeltaBreed Servers can be found in text form can be found at this link: Experiments & Observations.

Highlights from that training as well as videos can be accessed on this webpage.

Learning Targets for this training module:

  • Use the experiments & observations template.
  • Upload a file into DeltaBreed.
  • Download a file out of DeltaBreed, append observations and upload back into DeltaBreed.

Multi-Environment Experiments

If you wish to have a multi-environment experiment to analyze the adaptability of germplasm to multiple environments, you must plan this from the start when filling out the experiment & observations template. If this is not planned, your results could be confounded by other factors when you attempt to interpret the data.
Users can however add new environments to a DeltaBreed experiment at any time. Users may want to do this to:
Modify the list of germplasm under evaluation in an experiment, such as when dead plants are replaced with live.
Create environments to subset observations on long-lived organisms.

The experiment and observation template is very similar to both the germplasm and ontology template. Please pay careful attention to the “readme” tab as that contains instructions on which fields are required for successful upload into DeltaBreed.

Template

Import and overwrite

Once a user has completed the experiment & observation template, they can upload the data into DeltaBreed. From there, they can download the file, append and overwrite certain observational values and re-upload into DeltaBreed.
